I still remember my very first sewing experience was when I was around 10-years-old. My cousin was having a cupcake birthday party, for which my aunt was trying to make little aprons for each guest. I remember her tearing over to our house and begging my mom to borrow me for a few hours to help finish them (my mom was otherwise disposed with pouring a concrete pad in the back yard.) I spent the next several hours serging around little aprons so that my aunt could sew on the straps.
The bulk of my sewing experience comes from my high school years when my mom really taught me to sew. She allowed me to sew anything my heart desired, with her patience and help, I gained confidence. So much so that just after I got married eight years ago, I made my husband a pair of pants that are still his favorites today (or so he tells me.)
I have developed my own style, and really enjoy the time-consuming, mundane parts of sewing because I believe they really make a difference in quality, like ironing, pinning, and marking before sewing.
I get a real high off hearing, "You MADE that?!" So please comment, comment, comment, even if that's not what you're going to say! :)
On a more personal note, I have been married for nearly ten years to my husband, Enos. I am a stay-at-home mom to our five amazing and unique children: Samuel, Xavier, Rora (short for Aurora,) Zoram and Graham. We enjoy camping, watching movies, and reading together. When I find myself with the occasional spare moment, I like to blog surf, read, play volleyball, and sew (of course.)
